There was a student on the left of me who kept shouting throughout the entire concert for “No Interruption”, and it was incredibly annoying. I’m currently unemployed, so I’ll try to get into the tall-people-crowd-pumper-upper industry. One of the guys standing next to me brought up the possibility that these dudes were hired to pump up the crowd. The crowd of Hoodie, however, was comprised of many 6’4″ dudes. I’m not sure I mentioned this in the last post, but the crowd of Foster The People was mostly short girls. Many of my favorite musicians either dropped out of high school, didn’t go to college, or dropped out of college, so it’s pretty cool that he didn’t have to sacrifice his education for his music career.

Hoodie graduated from UPenn and actually worked at Google and performed for fans simultaneously before quitting to do music full time, so the dude’s got a serious work ethic. It actually reminds me of “If I Ever Feel Better” by Phoenix a little bit.) (The guitar part in “Small Town” sounds really disco to me. My favorites are “No Faith in Brooklyn” and “Small Town”.
Hoodie’s music is still pretty fun to listen to though. I don’t mean to offend anyone it’s just that many of the more gimmicky rappers aren’t as technically proficient or lyrically clever as rappers who use the medium as a narrative of struggle. The acoustics of Alumni Hall were actually pretty good, but I do wear tuned ear plugs which tend to help.Īnyway, Hoodie is one of those college white boy rappers (along with Asher Roth and Sammy Adams and Jason Mraz), so the standards I apply here are different than the ones I would apply to Nas, Andre, Kendrick, Gambino, and Macklemore. This took place in Alumni Hall, and there was a very long line to get in.

Even if you don’t like Hoodie, you can’t bash free stuff. The PSU SPA (Student Programming Association but not the computer science kind of programming) got us a free Hoodie Allen concert.
